The tip comes from Automotive News, which spoke to de Nysschen at Caddy’s press event for the XT5.
A three-row crossover would compete with existing upscale models like the Infiniti QX60, Acura MDX, Audi Q7, Volvo XC90, and Mercedes-Benz GLS. It would also compete with GM’s own Buick Enclave, which would eventually adopt this new platform the next time it’s redesigned; GM says the 2017 GMC Acadia would be the first of the company’s existing three-row utilities to get the new architecture, followed by the Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse.
A short-wheelbase version of the platform will underpin a future Chevrolet mid-size five-seater.
Cadillac is also said to be working on two smaller crossovers to fill the space below the XT5. Given Cadillac’s new naming strategy, as demonstrated by the XT5 and CT6 sedan, it’s not a stretch that XT7 is a likely name for the seven-seater, while those smaller crossovers will probably be labelled XT3 and either XT4, our assumption being that Cadillac is fixing to compete with rakish models like BMW’s X4.
